Website for an independent school

"Every now and then we like to give ourselves a big pat on the back for engaging MCC back in 2012 to redesign our website and our prospectus. From the very first meeting, they “got” our school and completely understood our brand. Not only that, but we’ve found the customer support to be second-to-none - so much so, that it was one of the deciding factors when we re-engaged MCC (over some major school website design companies) to manage our scheduled website update in 2017. A truly creative design company."
Marjie Thorne, Reading Blue Coat School

The challenge

Reading Blue Coat School needed a new website to better communicate the exciting and diverse educational and extracurricular opportunities on offer in the school. Already active social media users across several channels, the school wanted to integrate this into their website. As with most schools, the website has a large amount of content intended for different user groups, so improving the structure of the site and user journey was key.

Key aims

  • Differentiate the school's website from competitors
  • Convey the exciting and diverse activities happening in the school
  • Integrate social media activity
  • Clear and structured information architecture and user journey

Our approach

A completely new navigation system and structure were introduced to make content easy to find and guide prospective parents and students through the key information. A key new feature is the 'latest' wall which gives users an interactive way to explore the content of social media channels, blogs, videos, news and so on. A video was also produced for the homepage to give visitors an instant glimpse of school life. Development of the branding and unique elements such as fonts and iconography help to give the website its own personality and differentiate it from others.
